Office Space

So here at EC it is one of the most stressful times of the semester. No, it’s not finals times. It’s good old registration time.

I remember those days like yesterday. Sitting in front of a computer waiting for your time. When the clock hits, you try getting in, along with everyone else, and just sit there, watching the internet clock. When you finally get in, you realize every single top choice you had is already full, and you scramble to find other classes to get into.
You feel like this:

I never thought I would have to go through that again. But then I decided I wanted to enter the world of higher education, and get into advising. And now I join my advisees in the world of registration. I had tons of advisees today who couldn’t get into their classes because they were already full – or who just couldn’t get into the system period because the servers were jammed with traffic. And this not only stopped them from registering, but it also prohibited me from getting any work done. I was forced to write this post while at work. It’s not my fault really.
It was either blogs .. or this:

Office Space – fantastic movie. If you haven’t seen it, and you work in some type of office setting, you need to watch it. My past two jobs have literally been straight out of the movie. No joke. The last place, they decided to hire more people than they had room for, and I moved up a position, so they thought it would be cool to move me to the kitchen, and give the new person my desk. They move Milton to the basement, and me to the kitchen – not sure which is worse. There was cake for someone’s retirement (not that I wanted a slice), but I didn’t even get offered a slice because they ran out. I was literally living the Office Space. Thankfully – EC is nothing like that and I love my job. But the Office Space is still a ridiculously funny movie nonetheless. Make it a must see this weekend.

You make my heart beat faster

As I have said before, I love music. I always have. And when A and I met, we found it was something we had in common. We had been dating for maybe all of 5 days, when I found out that one of his favorite bands was playing nearby, and without even thinking about it, got us tickets to go see them. It was Taking Back Sunday in case you were wondering. At the time, I wasn’t into them, but a fantastic concert nonetheless.

A and I have been to tons of concerts, some big ones, but more so smaller ones, artists that aren’t as mainstream. We are both constantly trying to find new music. Matt Nathanson was one of those. Some might say he is now mainstream, he has had a couple hits so most people probably recognize the name. I still wouldn’t call him mainstream, but he is definitely making a name for himself. But when I started listening to him way long ago, no one knew the name. And A and I went to his concert at some tiny little hole in the wall venue in CT, and it was fantastic. We were front row, we could literally see his sweat, and I think we got spit on a few times as he sang. Doesn’t sound all that great I am sure – but it was awesome to be that close. If you ever get the opportunity to go to a smaller venue to listen to an artist, take it, you won’t regret it. Since that concert, I have loved Matt. He recently came out with a new CD. I don’t buy CDs often, I often just listen to music online or download a CD here or there. But I had to buy Matt’s CD. And it is fantastic.

One of my favorite songs off the CD, is actually his first single from it – Faster. It’s up beat, and it reminds me of A. Check out the song below.

“You make my heart beat .. faster”. True story. I know we are still in this “honeymoon phase”, although we have been together for long enough and we have always been this way, but I love how it is just so easy. I keep hearing everyone say that the first year is the hardest – well if this is as hard as it gets then fantastic.
I think a big part of why it is so easy and seems so perfect is because of our beliefs in God. We both come from very religious families, and go to church together every weekend. And I think this helps bring us together. So many of our friends’ relationships are constantly in turmoil and we see people breaking up left and right. It is very discouraging. And I ask myself where did they go wrong, and how do we make sure that we don’t get to that point. And I honestly think it comes down to God. Families that pray together, stay together – and I believe in that statement whole heartedly. I thank the Lord every day that I was blessed to have such a wonderful husband and a love like ours.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time …

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. I love Christmas. I love everything about it. The Christmas cheer, the lights, the Christmas tree and the tenacious smell that comes with the tree, giving gifts, the food, Christmas music. I eat it all up.
This year is A and I’s first Christmas together as a married couple. So yesterday we got our first tree and decorated it. Now I come from a family that goes and chops down a tree every year, so I was a little sad when we had to get a fake one. Don’t get me wrong, A loves real trees as well, but with being in an apartment right now, and no real way of transporting a tree with either of our small cars, it was more practical to get a fake one. Don’t worry, I had the Christmas Tree Candles burning in full force.

Of course, the Christmas tree went up while listening to our favorite Christmas jams (thank you Michael Buble for creating a fantastic Christmas CD). And it wouldn’t be the holidays without some baking! A wanted some chocolate chip cookies, and I obviously couldn’t say no to cookies.

I give it the rest of the day today for those cookies to be gone. A already made a good dent last night. I tried to restrain because I ate a ton of cookie dough – but tonight, those cookies don’t stand a chance.

Thankful

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving. Mine was fabulous – with way too much food. But hey – isn’t that what Thanksgiving is about. I decided that I need to stop drinking in front of my family – not because I get wasted and say embarrassing things in front of my family – but because we are Portuguese and we like to drink our wine, and when the time comes that A and I want to start trying for kids, the second I stop drinking at family functions they will know that I am with child. So if I start now, they won’t think it’s weird when I do stop drinking because of that. Which won’t be for a while – we need to get ourselves a little English Bulldog first 🙂

Black Friday was uneventful. I went to the mall for all of 20 minutes to pick something up that my parents wanted – which ended up being not what they were looking for anyways. Lame. I went black friday shopping once a few years ago, only bought one thing, and it ended up going on sale cheaper 2 weeks later – so that ended my black friday shopping. Waste of time. And I have heard so many people say they ended up finding the item cheaper online. I don’t understand why people go all crazy. Anyways, I met up with a couple of college roommates for lunch, and it was so nice. It’s been awhile where we were all together and could just chat. I wish we were closer so that we could do it more often. Friends are important in life. And it’s not the quantity – rather the quality. And those two girls are some quality friends. We would all jump on a plane for each other in a heartbeat ❤

Thanksgiving Eve = Traffic

Thanksgiving Eve. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Hope everyone takes a time to think about everything/everyone they are thankful for in their life.

What is Thanksgiving Eve? Most people would probably tell you its the number one night for going out in your hometown. Sure, everyone you grew up with and then some rush to the local bars. Most trying to prove that hey are further along in life than you are. Have fun with that – I will pass. People I want to catch up with, I still talk to and can catch up with whenever I want. And heck, if I want to see people I havent seen in years, or at least since last Thanksgiving Eve, I can just sign on to Facebook, where I am sure to learn more than I care to about people. So everyone be safe out there tonight!

So what do I really think of first when you say Thanksgiving Eve. Traffic. . . traffic traffic traffic. Thankfully EC gave me the day off – because my normal commute is 2 hours and I don’t think I could handle any more than that. Especially because it’s pouring here in the northeast, I can only imagine the roads right now. Now I currently live about 40 miles from work – which is a good distance, but its pretty much all highway. If I go on a Saturday, it takes me 45 minutes. Ok – great! But go during the week, between 5 and 10 in the morning and 3 and 8 in the afternoon, and boom, you aren’t on a highway, rather you are sitting in a parking lot. Why can’t people just keep moving? Why do they have to weave in and out and really not get any further and just cause more traffic? I joke that each day traffic steals a bit of my soul – but I kid you not. A and I are talking about finding a place closer to my work, somewhere half way between our works because the commute is just not working out. So for anyone out there that sits in parking lot traffic for 2+ hours like on your way home – I feel for you – stay strong.

As for tonight – the busiest day of the year for travel – good luck. I myself will be making the journey with A across state, but am waiting until as late as possible in hopes that traffic won’t be as bad.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Weetabix

Happy Tuesday. It’s my Friday. EC decided to give us the rest of the week off since the students are off for the whole week anyways.

Today I give you one of the most insane commercials ever. Check it out …

That is what happens when you eat Weetabix Chocolate cereal?!?? Then where do I get some of that. I LOVE cereal. Could eat it every meal of the day. But can you imagine what would happen if you ate this all day.

I have to put in a disclaimer here – that I especially like this commercial because of the music in it. You will find that many of my posts will probably be music driven (hence the blog name). I love music. A loves music too and its one of the many things that brings us together. He introduced me to the world of dubstep. And what’s that saying? Once you go dub you never go back? Right. Anyways, dubstep is awesome and addicting. I like to think about if I would have liked it if A hadn’t liked it and introduced it to me, or if I like it because of A. Either way – I love it now. If you are looking to something to work out to – dubstep. Something to party to – dubstep. Something to just veg out to – dubstep. There are some in your face songs and some chill songs, so you can really satisfy any mood. I think that’s why I like music so much to begin with. You can always find something to match your mood – or get you out of that mood if that’s what you are looking for.

But I digress. Here in this commercial, is a dubstep mixup of Mord Fustang’s “New World”. Apparently the commercial is from the UK. I am digging it.

You can listen to “New World” here:

Another favorite from Mord Fustang is “Magic Trooper”. Hit it.

72 Days

So here it is. My first post. No one ever enjoys their first time – so bare with me here as I try and make it through this.

Not sure where I am going with this blog – I guess it’s going to be a complete randomness for now until I figure it out.

My thought for the day. 72 days.

What is 72 days? A little over 2 months. Roughly  10 weeks or 1728 hours. 6,220,800 seconds. Or, to put it simply, 1 Kardashian.  Its a new unit of measurement really. Like 1 year = 365 days … 1 Kardashian = 72 days. Kim Kardashian managed to be married for all of 72 days before deciding that she needed to file for divorce. Now I hate the Kardashians. I have never watched any of their shows, can’t even tell you what any of them are called. And I really hate talking about them because they do what they do in order to get attention, and this is me giving them attention.  This will most likely be the one and only time you will hear me say the name. The reason I am even discussing this, is because I myself, have now offically been married for 72 days, or 1 Kardashian. Woo. I couldn’t be happier – and can’t even imagine all of a sudden saying “Honey, ya know, this just isnt working out for me. We gave it a shot, good luck with life.”

So in honor of my 1 Kardashian Anniversary, I give you

7 Things That Have Lasted Longer Than Kim Kardashian’s Wedding

1) My marriage (well tomorrow – but I’d bet my first unborn child I will be making it to day 73 of my marriage). I love you A   🙂

2) 1995. Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men came out with the hit “One Sweet Day”. The hit was gold, and made it to #1 on the Billboard Charts for the most weeks – 16 weeks to be exact. And that’s six weeks longer than Kim could hack the marriage thing. 72 sweet days was just too much for Kim…

3) The NBA lockout. The lockout started July 1st, and there is still no idea when the season will start, if at all. I find this quite ironic – being that Kris is a basketball player. What is he doing – now that he is not pretending to be married nor on the courts. Hmphh.

4) Kim and Kris actually made their own countdown. They were actually engaged longer than they were married for. I am sure that not many out there can say this. They were engaged for a whopping 85 days. Good thing they had E! to plan the entire thing. Because any bride out there knows that you can’t plan a wedding in 85 days – or at least not the ridiculous wedding that she had.

5) “I’ll never let go”… Blockbuster hit Titanic was the number one movie for 105 days. Looks like Kim and Rose let go of some promises. Kim said until death do us part .. what she really meant was 72 days. And Rose  said I’ll never let go .. but what she really meant was I won’t let go until I see some boats and then I am outta here.

6) Average sea-monkey life span – 730 days. The sea-monkey has us all beat. 730 days!!!

7) This last one just blows my mind. A dance marathon of 157 days. That’s a whole lot of dancing. Apparently it’s the longest dance marathon ever. It’s fantastic. And even better – this was back in the 1930s. That was probably the sickest dance party ever. I think I might look into throwing my own dance marathon and destroying the previous record …

And there you have it. 7 things that lasted longer than Kim Kardashians marriage. It probably would have been easier to make a list of things that didn’t make it to 72 days. There are probably only a few …  like Britney Spears’ first marriage of 55 hours. Sorry Britney.

Glad my first post is out of the way. Stay classy.
